HOMECOMING
is a film about the dramatisation of memory. Based on a short story,
it tells about a woman returning to her native city from abroad
and visiting the places that evoke the past.
The
film deals with a separation and a loss of home caused by the turmoil
of war. It makes use of flashbacks of three key episodes. The first
is about a Polish family gathered around a radio and listening to
Chamberlain's declaration of war on Germany. The second is of the
father dressed in military uniform saying farewell to his wife and
child. The third is about the expulsion from their apartment by
the invading Germans.
