Mira
Hamermesh explores in her film how present day Poles manage to co-exist
with the ghosts of their missing Jewish neighbours. The film is a
journey of exploration and of a search. While searching for her mother's
grave in the Lodz ghetto section of the cemetery, she travels all
over Poland to find traces of the vanished Jewish presence that has
marked Poland's over 500 years of history. |

She
meets some Poles who devote themselves to preserving the memory of
the Jews. The dead, they claim, demand to be honoured, remembered,
and loved. |
