END OF TERM was Mira Hamermesh's first British film: The film was shot at Betteshanger, a prep school in Kent which her own son attended, and it reflects her sensitive response to the peculiarly English essense of the subject.

 

The film centres on a school production of THE TEMPEST, and effectively captures the mood of the last days of term. The implicit comments on the prep school way of life are as shrewd as they are quiet.
